Virtualisation techniques in smaller companies 'are same as in larger ones'

30/11/2009 14:03:14

The adoption of virtualisation techniques is a similar process for small and large businesses, a blogger has stated. Tony Lock, of Freeform Dynamics writing for The Register, has said that the principles of implementing virtualisation remain almost identical across the board.

"When we look at the adoption of virtualisation solutions in x86 server environments, there are very similar trends to be seen between small businesses and their larger mid-market and enterprise brethren," Mr Lock wrote.

But there are also some differences, mainly relating to the amount of servers employed by a company. In larger firms with more servers the acquisition and operational cost benefits of virtualisation are increased.

Also, when data storage becomes so complex that it must move beyond basic server virtualisation capability, specialist products and skills must be sought - which can realistically only be funded by large organisations, explained Mr Lock.
