College has "utmost confidence" in Brocade technology

01 Dec 2009

A London college has upgraded its network in order to take advantage of unified communications applications, such as VoIP and HD video conferencing. The Royal College of Physicians is to implement Brocade FastIron SX 800 series ten-gigabyte Ethernet switches in a bid to improve the performance of its system.

The new network should deliver a fast and efficient service to the user and clients alike - who can hire the system to use during a meeting - as well as increasing resilience, decreasing power usage and enhance virtualisation.

It is believed that the college carried out a detailed analysis of all their options before opting for Brocade solutions. Another reason for its selection was Brocade's ability to ensure 14 websites run by the college are constantly available.

Christopher Venning, the college's IT network and services manager, said: "Last year we hit a crunch point with network capacity and decided to upgrade. We've used Brocade's equipment happily for years so have the utmost confidence in the technology and its ability."

Last week Brocade announced a 33 per cent growth in its revenue for the financial year to October 31st. During the period, the company took $1.95 billion (£1.17 billion).
