Hitachi Data Systems 'wants to adapt Toyota strategy to storage industry'

03/12/2009 17:24:29

Hitachi Data Systems ( Hitachi Data Systems) could be following the business model deployed so successfully before it by Toyota, an expert has claimed. Michael Vath, Hitachi Data Systems's senior vice-president and Europe, Middle East and Africa general manager, has stated that the ambition to be the best in their industry links the data storage firm with the Japanese car manufacturer, Chris Mellor explains in a blog for The Register.

Toyota made the claim that it would be the top global car company two decades ago and has gone on to fulfil the promise - enjoying a steady and consistent growth over the period. That is the "Japenese way," according to Mr Vath and will also be the strategy that Hitachi Data Systems has in mind.

Mr Mellor writes: "Vath says Hitachi Data Systems has entered the storage market at the enterprise level with its virtualising USP-V array. It then progressed downmarket to the small and medium enterprise markets with its AMS, WMS and SMS products." It is now expected to aim upwards once more and maintain the promising results it has enjoyed - much in the same way as Toyota.

Peter Gerr, Hitachi Data Systems's strategic marketing principal, last week claimed the company could soon benefit from a surge in demand for data storage efficiency as IT firms lead the country out of recession.
