New HDS product 'enables users to reduce storage capacity by 50 per cent'
01 Feb 2010
Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has released a new programme designed to reduce the amount of storage space required by businesses by up to 50 per cent. The storage solutions provider recently unveiled its Storage Capacity Reclamation Guarantee programme.
According to Gartner, this product will be especially useful to firms which are struggling to justify their desire for extra storage space during the period of economic downturn. By reducing the space required using Hitachi virtualisation technologies, operational costs are driven down and extra functions can be accommodated.
Asim Zaheer, vice-president of corporate and product marketing at HDS, said: "We do not expect to see the drive to reduce costs to subside. We are more committed than ever to helping our customers consolidate costs, both operational and capital, while still improving data centre performance."
An HDS blogger - David Merrill - last week stated that the demand for storage products will boil over in 2010, partly because of the ever-expanding demand for virtualisation.
