Hitachi Universal Storage Platform 'allows city to improve service'

03 Feb 2010

The city of Coquitlam in British Columbia, Canada is offering its residents a more efficient, productive and overall improved service thanks to Hitachi Data Systems' (HDS) Universal Storage Platform VM. The product has enabled the city authority to revamp its storage area network and include controller-based storage virtualisation.

Two data centres across the city now store all of the required data, which has become easier and quicker to access since the arrival of HDS' solutions. It has also enabled those in charge of Coquitlam to continue offering new services online.

Darren Browett, technical services manager for the City of Coquitlam, said: "During our evaluation, we considered criteria such as cost-to-value, quality and scope of technology, support infrastructure and ease of use. The Hitachi Universal Storage Platform VM scored the highest in these areas."

HDS recently released the Storage Capacity Reclamation Guarantee Programme, which it stated can help businesses to reduce the amount of capacity required by 50 per cent.
