IDC: World set for IT spending increase in 2010
04 Feb 2010
IT spending is set to rise across the globe in the coming year by an average of three per cent, according to one analyst. The "pent-up demand" for storage solutions which has built up because of the recession is ready to end - albeit slowly - says IDC.
However, investment in IT solutions will be more prevalent in some parts of the world compared with others.
Stephen Minton, vice-president of worldwide IT markets and strategies at IDC, states: "The engine of global industry growth in 2010 will be in emerging markets, in particular China and India, where IT spending will recover much more quickly."
The Asia-Pacific region will increase IT spending by six per cent in 2010 and Latin America is due to record a rise of five per cent, IDC believes.
Fellow analyst firm Gartner was slightly more optimistic in its predictions recently, when it suggested IT budgets will grow by 4.6 per cent in the next 12 months.
