Combining cloud with virtualisation 'will result in ultimate efficiency'

10/03/2010 14:33:09

Seamlessly integrating cloud storage with virtualisation technology is potentially the challenge of the next decade for data centre operators, a blogger has suggested. Combining the two is particularly difficult, though, with insufficient integration restricting the number of centres deploying both.

Loraine Lawson, writing for IT Business Edge, stated that she often wonders whether companies would be better off simply operating a private cloud. But firms which manage to get the cloud working in harmony with virtualisation software could enjoy an optimum level of efficiency, meaning many will not give up on their quest.

An article by Vellante, quoted by Ms Lawson, instructed data centre users seeking successful integration to "simplify the pieces in the middle while at the same time securing the end points".

One vendor said to be banking on the cloud is Asigra - a firm Channel Insider recently said would benefit greatly should storage dependence be switched on to the cloud.
