Spectra Logic solution used to protect biomedical data

10/03/2010 17:13:59

Innovative storage solutions provider Spectra Logic has announced that the Friedrich Miescher Institute (FMI) for Biomedical Research is using two of its tape storage libraries to archive and backup vital data. The biomedical information is being kept at the institute's base in Switzerland.

Since deploying the Spectra tape systems, the FMI has been able to scale its storage space to increase capacity by 10PB. The high density of information created by research carried out at the institute means up to 10TB of new data can be added to the tape solution every week.

Dean Flanders, chief information officer at FMI, says: "We are impressed and happy with the density and cost effectiveness of the Spectra Logic offering. Innovation in tape is what Spectra Logic does extremely well."

Last month, Spectra Logic posted record-breaking financial results, showing its tape, disk and software solutions, as well as its storage services, had all enjoyed a surge in popularity.
