The leading WAN optimisation vendor, Riverbed Technology, has commented on the recent news that Cisco is dropping its ACE application delivery product line. Apurva Dave, Riverbed’s VP – Products & Marketing said that he believes this move happened because “the ACE product line is simply not relevant to today’s data centres”.

With the data centre market dramatically changing in recent years with the emergence of cloud and virtualisation technology, there has been a noticeable shift to software-defined data centres. Due to this, Dave argues, it therefore “only makes sense to consume ADCs in the same dynamic, flexible way that applications are created – as software”.

To assist IT departments looking to upgrade to the latest ADCs, Riverbed offers implementation services as well as a trade-in programme for old technology. Riverbed Stingray is the only ADC software solution on the market capable of deployment in private, public and hybrid clouds.
