Aastra Unveils New SIP-DECT Phones Compatibility With NET SmartSIP
19 July 2011 18:22:00
Aastra, the specialist provider of enterprise-class communications solutions, has revealed that it has completed successful testing of its SIP-DECT mobility solution’s interoperability with Net Equipment Technologies’ (NET) SmartSIP 2.0 for Microsoft Lync Server 2010. This new compatibility encompasses the vendor’s broad suite of standards-based SIP phones.
SmartSIP 2.0 is a piece of software that extends enterprises’ current SIP endpoints, and enables 802.11 WiFi and DECT. It also affords users Lync voice compatibility for SIP devices.
Tim Whittington, executive vice president and general manager of Aastra USA Inc., commented: “SIP-DECT provides much greater flexibility and mobility for those enterprises while enabling them to still take advantage of presence and other productivity tools desired in a Unified Communications implementation.”
Aastra’s announcement also highlighted the benefits of DECT technology as opposed to WiFi; namely that it does not take up bandwidth needed by other devices, as it works within its own spectrum.
