ExaGrid Named Pioneers in Optimised Synthetic Backups

ExaGrid Systems has announced that it has been certified by Symantec for optimised synthetic backups with NetBackup, making it the first third-party deduplication appliance to do so.

This will benefit users of ExaGrid and NetBackup who will require less space for backup since changes are periodically merged on top of existing backups. These changes will be much faster as a result of deduplication that also solves potential I/O bottlenecks. The speed efficiency will not just be limited to backup times, as recovery time is significantly better compared to other solutions, due to it only having to recover one unified backup file.

Vice President of Product Management for ExaGrid Systems, Marc Crespi said: “Our end users benefit by shorter backup windows and gaining the ability to recover full backups without having to rebuild full images on their systems.”
