The role of the chief mobility officer (CMO) is becoming increasingly vital to businesses who want to embrace mobile technology, claims a new report from Forrester Research.

In an article from Computerworld, it is suggested that the ‘timely’ position of CMO is becoming increasingly prominent in a growing mobile culture in which smartphones and tablets are, "the manifestation of a much broader shift to new systems of engagement... [with] customers, partners and employees".

Mobile technology is adapting to growing demands in the business world. For example, videoconferencing specialist LifeSize’s ClearSea offering has incorporated mobile support for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. Moreover, vendors such as Meru Networks are responding to the increasing burden on networks by worker-brought devices.

"We're trying to create awareness with CEOs and CIOs, even though a lot is already happening at the level of practitioners with partner tablet apps and more", Forrester analyst Ted Schadler said.
