Gartner Identifies Top CIO Trends

Gartner VP Analyst Michele Caminos has revealed what CIOs need to be aware of as we cross from 2011 into 2012.

Caminos covers a variety of already topical IT areas including the increasing need for companies to analyse big data as it’s expected to grow by 800% in 5 years; a common topic of data centre discussion, virtualisation – Caminos believes that the continued diversification of end user devices will necessitate a virtualised approach to ensure compatible service delivery; and consumerisation of IT, with the increasing tendency towards BYOD and its ensuing IT headaches as CIOs look to cope with a multitude of tablets and smartphones in the workplace: “IT management will need to get its security policies and processes up to date in order to accommodate this growing trend”.

Caminos also notes that energy efficiency will be high on the agenda and while CSR has always been a consideration, the ability to save power by utilising efficient data centre technology will become more important, and something to be considered in future systems migrations or data centre refits.
