Gartner: Tablets And Cloud Computing Are The Ones To Watch
13 January 2012 18:13:00
Gartner has recently cast its predictions for how IT departments will function in the future, shaped by what Gartner analyst Kimberly Harris-Ferrante terms as ‘an always-connected digital lifestyle’.
Gartner’s predictions are shaped by cloud computing and social media. In the healthcare field, it forecasts that 85 per cent of pharmacological salespeople will use tablet PCs. It also predicts that at least one of the major social networks will branch out into insurance sales.
Other predictions include the leveraging of cloud services to tackle big data issues by 30 per cent of smart grid projects, and the failure of 80 per cent of multichannel implementations due to retailer’s ‘channel- and product-centric strategies’.
Harris-Ferrante commented: "The market, economic, demographic and technological environments that industries will face in 2012 will require them to be nimble in their operations and enterprise practices."
The increased use of tablet PCs is causing a paradigm shift in wireless internet. Wireless virtualisation from pioneers like Meru Networks is proving the answer to multiple devices requiring access to the enterprise network.
