IT performance company Riverbed has added two new product lines to its Steelhead family – the Steelhead CX and Steelhead EX. The CX is similar to the xx50 series but offers more capacity and throughput at the same TCO. The EX, however, has been specifically designed for virtual environments and has been purposefully released in line with the Riverbed’s edge-VSI architecture, Granite.

The Steelhead EX is supported by dedicated SSDs and will be used to help organisations consolidate branch offices, offering them supported virtual services like print servers. If the EX is upgraded to include Granite then it can help deliver edge-VSI services with up to 50% lower costs of ownership.

Sean Power, CIO at Lathrop and Gage said: “I’m impressed by the evolution of the Steelhead product family; the new Steelhead appliances have more memory, processing power and throughput than previous models, as well as delivering RAID and dual power supplies as standard on each appliance..”
