Smart Modular SSDs 'help reduce total cost of ownership'
25 September 2009 15:58:24
Smart Modular reveals that it has chosen the SandForce SF-1500 solid-state drive (SSD) processor to be used in its enterprise-class, next-generation XceedIOPS SATA SSDs, in order to provide enterprise storage systems with industry-leading performance and high reliability. The partnership solution is ideal for use in data centre applications which carefully monitor power, as SSDs which use SF-1500 SSD processors can reach and sustain peak performance levels while consuming energy of less than 2.5 watts.
Commenting on the announcement, Jeff Janukowicz, research manager for hard disk drive components and SSDs at IDC, says that IT managers continue to find ways in which they can improve the total cost of ownership and performance, without hindering system reliability.
Meanwhile, Alan Gulachenski, Smart Modular's vice-president of advanced memory solutions, says: "It offers us impressive performance and low power consumption benefits as well as the opportunity to pass on the cost-benefits of MLC technology to our customers."
Last month, the vendor announced a new Rugged Xcel-10 2.5-inch SSD with data security features.
