Spectra Logic Launches New Pre-Purchase Program

Spectra Logic has announced the global launch of its Linear Tape Open Generation 6 (LTO-6) tape drive pre-purchase programme.

Based on thirty years of data storage innovation, the programme allows customers to meet their current data storage requirements, purchasing tape libraries, confident that their investment will not be devalued in the future. Once the next generation of drive and media technology is available, customers will be able to simply upgrade. It means T-Finity users will benefit from 8Gb fibre channel interfaces, while T50e and T120 users can look forward to either 8Gb fibre channel or 6Gb SAS interfaces.

Molly Rector, Spectra Logic's chief marketing officer said: "LTO's roadmap provides consistent, state-of-the-art technological advancements in tape reliability, capacity and transfer rate capabilities.”

The storage capacity of LTO-6 is up to 8.0 terabytes, this doubles the capacity of LTO-5. Transfer rates are expected to reach 525 megabytes per second.
