07 December 2011 19:48:00
Research released by analyst organisation, IDC, has indicated that the volume of information produced and reproduced in 2011 will soon exceed 1,800 exabytes.
Spectra Logic has responded with the launch of Spectra T-Finity, a storage system it has claimed has the world’s highest capacity. The system has the ability to store more than 3.6 exabytes of data within its tape library.
The library can be increased to 40 frames to hold 50,000 tape cartridges and by taking advantage of Spectra’s skyway technology, users can create an eight library complex, capable of 400,000 tape capacity.
“The ‘Big Data’ trend is driving technology requirements in applications ranging from enterprise data centers to academic supercomputing labs”, said CEO of Intersect360 Research, Addison Snell.
