Hitachi Data Systems Posts Largest External Storage Figures

Whilst recent figures from analyst house IDC have pointed to a slowdown in the growth of external disk storage systems, the picture is not as bleak as it first appears. Although the market declined by two percent, not all vendors lost out. 

Hitachi Data Systems posted the highest gain of all the major storage vendors with IDC stating that the storage giant saw a third quarter 23% year on year and 14% quarter on quarter gain in Western Europe.

“Over the last four quarters, high-end disk storage systems experienced a strong deployment cycle in which Western European enterprises spent $1.5 billion, not including additional software and professional services content. Last quarter we passed the high point of this cycle”, said Donna Taylor, research director for IDC’s European Storage Group.
