Diligent Technologies tackles data de-duplication with HyperFactorT
HyperFactorT leads the market for eliminating redundant data in backup environments
11th May 2007 - Diligent Technologies has overcome organisations' long and costly backup windows with its HyperFactorT data de-duplication technology.
HyperFactorT inline de-duplication technology works by analysing data as it is received by the target storage device, performing the de-duplication in real time without temporarily storing it to disk, as observed with post processing methods.
HyperFactorT compares new data with similar previous data, but does not open the data stream to examine logical content. This enables throughput performance speeds of up to 400Mb/s and ensures the most efficient use of disk resources and capacity.
Neville Yates, chief technology officer at Diligent Technologies, said: "Data de-duplication technologies such as HyperFactor are increasingly seen as the most promising method of controlling costs, while enhancing the level of data protection and enabling remote replication.
"HyperFactor is the only enterprise-class solution that offers high performance, scalability and data integrity that enterprises demand, all without compromising their backup process," he said.
With HyperFactor, organisations' eliminate redundant data and benefit from a large-scale reduction in the cost and volume of physical storage required, thus rendering disk-storage economically viable for backup restoration and disaster recovery processes.
This stands in stark contrast to post processing methods that can only perform the de-duplication process after the backup has been completed, therefore stretching or even exceeding the backup window customers have established and resulting in tape as the only viable choice.
David Galton-Fenzi, group sales director at Diligent distributor Zycko, said: "HyperFactor from Diligent Technologies is ideally suited to helping businesses reduce their overall data levels and improve backup and recovery times," he said. "Zycko has said before that it is committed to making data protection and with HyperFactorT that dream is becoming simpler, affordable and reliable."
Martin Bruce, lead storage consultant at Friends Provident, said: "We are currently rolling out the solution to protect around 50TB of production data after identifying the storage savings, made possible by the factoring capabilities of the ProtecTIER platform.
