Zycko Annual Summit - (in)spire /07
Inspire 2007 round-up
14th November 2007 - Zycko, the value-added distributor of best-in-class convergent storage and IP solutions, presented their annual summit last week.
At the event, which was an educational forum for resellers, Zycko presented vendor agnostic advise on what issues are driving customer demand, and what solutions are available.
Speakers covered several topics such as: the influence of technology in today’s world, the IT market – future trends and developments, achieving a green data centre, business protection, data centre management – control and continuity, consequences of distributed working, convergent VoIP implementation and voice and video over IP.
Key speaker Alex Rabbetts, MD, Migration solutions, provided an overview of the latest trends and predictions for managed services. He began by looking at security as one of the latest trends in data centre management, focusing specifically on IP cameras, access control, biometrics and remote access.
Convergence was also named one of the latest trends. Mr Rabbetts looked at how IT and facilities are working together much more closely and soon they will merge, the integration of plant onto IT network, SNMP traps from plant, IP addressable plant controls and how BMS becomes part of the overall environment management.
He also gave data centre management predictions for convergence, regulation and process and procedures.
Mr Rabbetts concluded that: the out-source/in-source question will continue, with rising colo costs, in-house built will increase, security will remain paramount, convergence will happen whether we like it or not, regulation is on its way and how tight process and procedures are the only way to ensure stability.
Tony Lock, from Freeform Dynamics Ltd, looked at managing storage and what customers want. He told how customers need help understanding process and technology – particularly in storage and that customers want solutions and to avoid risk. Mr Lock also looked at infrastructure virtualization as the future and how it is necessary to communicate in business terms – not just technology.
