US Liberal Arts College Partners With LifeSize
A 130-year old American ‘liberal arts’ college has added video conferencing as the latest tool to offer students as excellent an experience as possible. Hendrix College in Arkansas – consistently appearing very high in third-party listings of up and coming institutions of this sort across the US – says addition of the technology, from video market leader LifeSize, is a natural fit for the many other services it offers its 1,400 students.
“Our approach to evaluating classroom technology is always through the lens of how it advances the academic mission,” notes the college’s CIO, David J. Hinson.
“LifeSize is allowing us to push the limits of what an engaged classroom experience is.”
What Hinson particularly wanted was to capture the interest of faculty and staff in the power of the “stunning” HD functionality available through its new LifeSize 220 endpoints.
It does seem he has met that goal. In one instance, a politics professor was able to beam live conference activity at a major party get together back to his class, while one of his colleagues was able to link with contacts in China to give students an insider’s look at that culture’s literature and family life.
LifeSize is the HD video communications arm of IT giant Logitech.
