The Rica Hotels Deployment of Wireless Technology and PoE in its Chain of Norwegian Hotels

The hotel wanted to install a state-of-the-art wireless network that would provide guests with the ability to access e-mail or download a file from anywhere in the hotel, even whilst travelling in the lift down to reception. In addition the hotel also considered deploying information terminals and guest PCs throughout the hotels where guests can access local information to make their stay more rewarding, such as details of concerts, plays and other special events happening in the area with the facility to book tickets online and download payment details. For the purposes of health and safety it was important to avoid the possibility of trailing cables posing a danger for guest’s safety as well as maintaining the stylish look of the décor.

NASA

In 2003, NASA Langley focused on the upcoming MER Spirit landing, scheduled for January 3, 2004. Langley was responsible for multiple aspects of the MER project, including analysis of Spirit’s entry, descent and landing data. Researchers at NASA Langley would have only weeks to assess the data, then determine and test potential changes before providing their recommendation to the flight software coders. The results of the analysis could then be used to adjust Opportunity’s entry, increasing its chances of success. Prasun Desai, Langley’s MER project lead, saw that the analysis would require facilities to store and protect a large volume of data. He assessed the research group’s backup system, and realized that its current hardware was not up to the task of protecting the valuable data that would be traveling from Mars to Langley in early January. NASA Langley needed a centralized tape library that offered high-speed backups, large expansion capacity, and small footprint.

Largest non-metro police force in England cuts travel, improves communication with HD video

With the large number stations and staff, three to four daily briefings between locations is an absolute necessity to keep operations running smoothly. Video conferencing was introduced more than seven years prior at the two main stations in Oxford City, but due to the poor video quality, choppy audio and overall unreliability, in particular, the system was gradually deteriorating into an inefficient communications tool. “The old video system was always breaking down,” said Paul Purkis, Business Manager, Oxfordshire BCU. “The valuable time and effort lost to troubleshooting just wasn’t worth it.”

Top U.S. law firm chooses LifeSize to improve communication, reduce travel

The idea of connecting attorneys via video was not a new idea at Cozen O’Connor. The firm had been looking into the technology for nearly a decade, but due to poor image quality and mostly ISDN connectivity between offices, the idea never really took off. When Joe D’Urso joined the firm as Telecommunications Manager, he assessed the issues and decided it was time to put the negative connotations about video communications to rest and truly find the best video solution on the market. Cozen O’Connor needed a technology solution that could not only reduce travel between offices and keep the growing number of attorneys at each location connected, but also give users a superior quality of experience, as if all parties were sitting in the same room. The ability to share depositions and data between locations was also an important factor, as there are often times when multiple attorneys need to collaborate on the same document in real-time.
