SCSI Converter
Over the many years in which SCSI has been in use as the primary protocol for connecting storage devices to computers, the electrical characteristics of the protocol has changed in step with the performance of each new generation of disk and tape drives. This has lead to 3 types of SCSI buses: Single Ended (SE), High Voltage Differential (HVD) and Low Voltage Differential (LVD).
Often the user finds himself with a new disk or tape unit with one interface - typically LVD and their system with another. At this point the user has two choices:
- Upgrade his system to the same bus specification - this can be a costly option if the system is one of the propriety hardware manufacturers
- A SCSI-to-SCSI converter - Bridgeworks can provide a wide range of products that will allow the user to combine the two differing SCSI buses into one
Features
- No SCSI IDs used
- Bi directional
- Target and host devices support on both buses
- Transparent to host
- Support 8 bit and 16 bit SCSI buses
