PowerDsine PoE midspan products ‘to find a wider audience’
Following their acquisition by Microsemi, it has been announced that PowerDsine power over Ethernet (PoE) midspan products are set to receive a wider client-base.
The analogue/mixed signal integrated circuit and semiconductor manufacturer has announced that it will "aggressively" pursue new applications for the systems in a range of industries, ranging from aerospace and defence to commercial aviation.
J Peterson, president and chief executive officer of Microsemi, commented that presence in these industries would see the PowerDsine PoE products entering new markets, whereas prior to their acquisition such products were primarily focused on commercial uses.
"We now can deliver PoE technology to a far wider audience," he said.
"For example, we envision many high-reliability applications to spin off from the wide commercial use of our PoE technology for powering security cameras."
Microsemi announced the signing of a definitive agreement to purchase PowerDsine in October 2006, stating that the company's analogue and mixed-signal design engineers would provide first-rate results across a number of its sectors, including the PoE market..
